Toxic Chemicals In Your Everyday Life: Let's Talk About Obesogens + BPA

There are certain chemicals we come into contact with on a regular basis that are endocrine disruptors. Exposure to obesogens which are found in plastics, personal care products, and pesticides, can increase the number and size of fat cells in your body, slow your metabolism, and heighten your appetite. This ultimately results in obesity and a higher body mass index, which can lead to reproductive issues, cancer, diabetes and other health issues. A significant way to decrease your exposure to these is to avoid and remove plastics wherever and whenever you can. BPA has been strongly linked to obesity, insulin resistance, disrupted reproductive cycles and ovarian dysfunction, cancer, heart disease, decreased sperm quality and the list goes on.

» WATER BOTTLES

Make sure that your water bottle, that often sits in your hot car, or in your refrigerator, does not contain BPA that can leach into your water.

» SHOWER CURTAINS

Instead of using a vinyl shower curtain that can emit toxins, choose an eco-friendly, non- plastic one that is made from pesticide-free materials.

» CHOOSE GLASS

Choose products packaged in glass rather than plastic, when you can.

» RECEIPT PAPER

Skip the cash register receipt paper. It contains the synthetic compound Bisphenol A (BPA).

» EPOXY LINERS

Also be careful about switching to metal water bottles, make sure that they contain no epoxy liners.

» PLASTIC UTENSILS

Choose wooden or eco-eating utensils and always keep them in your bag, avoiding plastic utensils (BPA).

» SODA + SOUPS + CANNED GOODS

Make sure even your canned goods are not stored in a BPA lined container. Check every can of soup that you buy to make sure it is not lined with BPA. Your soda cans and your canned goods at the grocery store, might all contain BPA unless otherwise listed.

» HOUSEHOLD CLEANERS

Avoid buying any household cleaners or beauty products that contain chemicals that make plastic more flexible and are also thought to promote fat storage in the body. Use only natural cleaning products or even better or make your own.

Natural Self-Care: Are Your Tampons Poisoning You?

Always use organic natural cotton tampons and pads that are 100% organic cotton. Typically, sanitary products are bleached with chlorine to make them white, which produces dioxin, a known carcinogen and pollutant that settles in our fat cells and stays in our bodies for pretty much the rest of our lives and dioxin levels build up and accumulate over time. There is no safe exposure level for dioxin. We don’t support any company that poisons women's’ bodies for profit. Tampon and sanitary pad manufacturers aren’t required to disclose ingredients because feminine hygiene products are considered “medical devices.” Make sure your use organic cotton to avoid pesticides from being absorbed directly into your body.
